I was the first one in the office this morning. Alone. I had the ability to search for our daily prayer book and read it aloud to myself. I got to pray out loud through the whole building and I got to turn on worship music at full blast for a large part of this morning. How my spirit needed that!

It seems a little crazy to pray out loud when you’re alone. I know that some people swear by the power of an audible prayer, and other people say that there is no way in the world they will pray out loud. I fall somewhere in the middle of this. I like praying out loud, but I’m naturally an introvert- even when I am all alone.

Today, there was a freedom in praying and walking the dark halls. I felt like I was changing something, even if it was only me. There was something satisfying in setting the tone of the morning- my morning. It’s true that when the first person came in, that mood shifted. And with the second person came the elimination of my worship music.

I don’t know what’s going to happen when the next person comes in. I know that I still have a big, long, fat, juicy list both here and at home, but for now I’m soaking in the music and keep reading over the scripture I prayed through the morning.

If anyone is interested in taking some time to try what God had for me this morning, I listened to this song after reading Psalm 20. Really read each line for what it is. I claimed each one as a promise for myself, my family, and my office today.

1 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!

2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
and give you support from Zion!

3 May he remember all your offerings
and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah

4 May he grant you your heart's desire
and fulfill all your plans!

5 May we shout for joy over your salvation,
and in the name of our God set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!

6 Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with the saving might of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.

9 O Lord, save the king!
May he answer us when we call.
